Jargon Buster & Frequently Asked Questions

What is 3PL (Third Party Logistics)?

3PL is a service that allows you to outsource the operational logistics from storage and warehousing, all the way through to delivery. This ultimately enables you to focus on other more important parts of your business.

What is a D2C sales channel?

Direct to consumer marketing (D2C) is a strategy in which a company promotes and sells a product directly to consumers, cutting out the need for any intermediaries. Basically, selling product straight from your website. This is a much more profitable stream of income but if you don’t have the appropriate logistical support, it can be hugely time consuming for little reward.

How do we make money?

We will charge for the following services: a weekly storage fee, a picking fee and processing fees (say for example you want us to build gift packs for you or hand write complements slips). We will pass on the cost plus a % for any courier or packaging needed.

Do you have to sign a contract?

Yep. Nothing scary, but something we have to have to ensure both sides know who’s doing what, how much it costs and what happens when things go wrong.

Can you ship glass?

Yes

Can you ship chilled or frozen food?

No. We only offer ambient storage and shipping

Do you have an alcohol license?

Yes.

Are we organically certified?

Yes.

Will you ship items other than food or drink?

Yes. We are specialists in storing and shipping products. It doesn’t actually matter what they are as every item we ship is treated with the respect it deserves. Pork Crackling or iPads, its all important in our world.

I don’t have an e-commerce site, does that matter?

No. If you have stuff you want us to ship, you can log into our website and order everything you need. Ideal if you want us to send samples to potential clients.

Do we only ship D2C?

No. We can offer B2B services as well, however, there are some very good companies out there who offer these services. We would’t be best placed to be shipping pallets of products to single locations. What we would be really good at is sending cases and single units out to either businesses or consumers.

Which web-shops do you integrate with?

All of them.

What information do you need from us to get going?

Web-shop integration:

We need to be able to link our system with your web-shop and do to this we need whats called an API key. Your Startup Logistics account manager will help you find this. To ensure the integration works every product on your web-shop must be assigned with a unique product code.

Product list:

Before we go live we will also need an Excel list of the following information:

·      Product code

·      Product description

·      Pack size

Yes.

My stock has a date expiry on it. Will you manage the dates for me?

Yes we will send out the oldest stock first, unless you tell us otherwise.

I want to use my own branded boxes or tape. Is that ok, will you charge me?

We’d love to use your packaging. We won’t charge you other than the monthly cost of storing a pallet which is £15+vat/month.

Can you provide tracking for my orders?

Yes. All orders will be tracked and these tracking links will be sent to your web-shop each day.

Is there a minimum order volume?

No… 1 parcel a month or 1000 parcels a day. We are proper flexible.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. All your stock is insured when it is in our warehouse. However, we do not take title of goods and if your order is damaged or broken in transit that is not covered by our insurance.

Who is responsible for customer service to my customer?

You are. We are the silent partner, working furiously in the background to make you look awesome, reduce your admin and help you sell shed loads of product. You will need to contact your customer and update them on shipping and tracking information. We will provide your web-shop with this information but you will need to ensure your notification settings are set to let the customer know.
